| Next time you run into a wingnut regurgitating the usual kooky talking points remind then of these inconvenient facts.... Pop Quiz: Under Reagan, What Was Peak Unemployment, How Long Before It Began Declining? | Quote: | Class, I am shocked, shocked, that no one is raising his right hand. So, I'll tell you. Reagan inherited an unemployment rate of 7.6%, no wars, no major financial crisis, a still robust auto industry, a right wing clamoring for increased defense spending (that helps domestic employment), no retiring baby boomers actually taking down social security funds.
To answer the pop quiz: the unemployment rate under Reagan went from 7.6% to 9.7-9.8% in the summer after his inaugural, and remained at that level for two years, before it began to decline in the summer of 1983. In "Obama-time", that would be the equivalent of the summer of 2011. Moreover, the economy did not begin improving until the Spring, 1983, in "Obama-time" that is Spring, 2011. |
| Quote: | | Surprise question for extra credit: what was Reagan's approval rating in January, 1983, two years into his Presidency? Again, no one raising their right hand except Dickie Cheney and OJ? OK, the correct answer: 35%--an approval rating only Dick Cheney and OJ Simpson would cheer. |

| Tell it to all the people who are desperate for any job, no matter how crappy the pay. A person with an experience is not at the mercy of a crafty argument. It kills me how the White House is claiming victory for jobs made and jobs saved. But they have no proof of any jobs actually saved. Meanwhile unemployment claims are increasing, not decreasing. And that doesn't factor in those whos benefits have been exhausted. |

There are hardly any jobs out there. My daughters' Fiancee has been desparately looking for work, with no luck. He was even called back for a 2nd interview for one job, but didn't get it. The few jobs that are out there, are like meat thrown to the sharks. It is a feeding frenzy. |

If you knew anything about finance you'd know that unemployment is always the last thing to recover in a downturn. |

| When Reagan's unemployment record declined, it was not because people got jobs. Mostly it was because they just weren't getting unemployment benefits anymore. I know we were working reduced hours until late 1984. |

| | Quote: | Obamas continue busy Maine holiday By MARK S. SMITH, Associated Press Writer Mark S. Smith, Associated Press Writer 2 hrs 20 mins ago
BAR HARBOR, Maine – The nation's coastlines have been good to President Barack Obama this week — first with news BP's gushing oil well is finally capped, then with a family vacation that got off to a spectacular start.
In the first day alone it spanned the tallest mountain peak along the Eastern Seaboard, a bicycle ride beside a pristine lake and an exhilarating boat ride through a wind-whipped bay.
The vacation for Obama, his wife, Michelle, and daughters Malia and Sasha continued Saturday with other planned activities centered on Acadia National Park, a 47,000-acre gem that brackets this upscale summer resort. |

| | Quote: | Confidence in Obama reaches new low, Washington Post-ABC News poll finds
By Dan Balz and Jon Cohen Washington Post Staff Writer Tuesday, July 13, 2010; A01
Public confidence in President Obama has hit a new low, according to the latest Washington Post-ABC News poll. Four months before midterm elections that will define the second half of his term, nearly six in 10 voters say they lack faith in the president to make the right decisions for the country, and a clear majority once again disapproves of how he is dealing with the economy.
Regard for Obama is still higher than it is for members of Congress, but the gap has narrowed. About seven in 10 registered voters say they lack confidence in Democratic lawmakers and a similar proportion say so of Republican lawmakers.
Overall, more than a third of voters polled -- 36 percent -- say they have no confidence or only some confidence in the president, congressional Democrats and congressional Republicans. Among independents, this disillusionment is higher still. About two-thirds of all voters say they are dissatisfied with or angry about the way the federal government is working. |

| | Quote: | President Ronald Reagan, who also contended with a serious recession at the outset of his first term, was a little lower at this point in 1982, with a 46 percent to 45 percent split on his approval ratings. Republicans went on to lose about two dozen seats in the House that fall.
Of course, Reagan and Clinton subsequently rebounded and went on to win reelection easily. Obama advisers find some hope from that history, even as the historical record foreshadows Democratic losses this November. |

Hey, BWG, I read that article...did you read the comments?
I couldn't resist copying it...it made me LOL!
Obamas enjoy family vacation in the great outdoors By Felicia Sonmez BAR HARBOR, Maine -- President Obama and his family aren't just getting outside the Beltway on their brief vacation here -- they're getting outside, period.
Since their arrival Friday afternoon, the Obamas have been biking, hiking and boating their way around Mount Desert Island, the third-largest island on the Eastern Seaboard and home to the 47,000-acre Acadia National Park.
The first stop Friday was a 90-minute bike ride on the lushly wooded trails around Witch Hole Pond at the northern end of the island. Then came a family hike on Cadillac Mountain, at 1,530 feet the highest peak on the East Coast, followed by an ice cream stop in downtown Bar Harbor, where the president took a momentary break from his coconut ice cream cone to pose for a few pictures with onlookers.
The Obamas rounded out their first day with a National Park Service boat ride on Frenchman Bay and a waterfront dinner at Stewman's Lobster Pound. Even dinner was outdoors: The first family, who arrived at the restaurant via boat, sat at a table on a pier overlooking the bay. (The president and the first lady dined on lobster, while their daughters shared a shrimp basket, according to restaurant manager Jeff Buffington, who also noted that Obama "shook hands with everybody" and was "very friendly" to the surprised diners on the pier.)
On Saturday, the Obamas kept up their busy pace with a morning of tennis at the Bar Harbor Club, an elegant compound constructed by J.P. Morgan in 1929. In the afternoon, they traveled to Southwest Harbor, where they grabbed lunch at the waterfront Claremont Hotel before taking in the sights at the Bass Harbor Head lighthouse, which sits atop a rocky precipice on the southern tip of the island.
First do Bo, who came along for the weekend getaway, watched from below as the first family climbed to the top of the lighthouse, but he joined in at the next stop, an afternoon hike along the rocky Ship Harbor trail. The Obamas hiked for about an hour, taking breaks to skip rocks along the water, play with Bo and chat with other families, according to Katie McCormick-Lelyveld, the first lady's press secretary.
The vacation follows one the first family took last summer to Yellowstone National Park and Grand Canyon National Park, where whitewater rafting and peach-picking were among the activities they enjoyed in the great outdoors.
Unlike that trip -- as well as the Obamas' other recent vacations to Martha's Vineyard, Hawaii and a brief Memorial Day trip to Chicago -- the first family's latest getaway has been relatively free of interruption.
Perhaps the only reminder this weekend of the political pressures facing Obama came Saturday afternoon, when a handful of anti-war protesters gathered at the downtown Village Green.
Patty Ryan, 64, a retired land conservation specialist and one of the protest's organizers, said the group had been holding anti-war protests every Sunday, rain or shine, beginning the week after Sept. 11, 2001, but ending on the day Obama was elected, "to give him a chance."
Asked whether Saturday's event meant that the protests will resume, Ryan said the group will "probably have a discussion about that."
"It's a big commitment," she said, adding: "We live in paradise."

I guess the one thing we can be thankful for on this day is that we get closer and closer to ending our national tragedy of electing this idiot into office. Vacations, gold outsings, flights weekly for "campaign style" speeches, concerts, etc. The guy say he will not rest until....but always seems to be resting. What an idiot. “Society in every state is a blessing, but government even in its best state is but a necessary evil; in its worst state an intolerable one; for when we suffer, or are exposed to the same miseries by a government, which we might expect in a country without government, our calamity is heightened by reflecting that we furnish the means by which we suffer.”

WeMadeAmistake: "Turns out that he lied about the mandatory requirement to carry health care coverage or face a 'fine'. During the debate, Obama argued that is was NOT a tax. Now they are defending the lawsuits against the bill mandate by the states as a TAX that congress has a right to levy! OBAMA IS A PATHOLOGICAL LIAR." ******************************************
Yep. Absolutely correct.

Over five thousand years ago, Moses said to the children of Israel " pick up your shovel, mount your asses and camels, and I will lead you to the Promised Land". Nearly 75 years ago, Roosevelt said, "Lay down your shovels, sit on your asses, and light up a Camel, this is the Promised Land". Now Obama has stolen your shovel, taxed your asses, raised the price of Camels, and mortgaged the Promised Land! |

Hey, Passion, I didn't even see your post on top of mine until "flood control came on, giving you an option of saving or modifying. Isn't it weird we were writing about the same thing...??? Unknowingly at the same time. I'm not sure this got posted...usually it tells ya to wait 60 seconds and then when you hit save, it shows up twice. We'll see...gonna hit "Post" now!!!!

Just now watching, "Meet The Press"...you guys didn't know that 2.3 million jobs were lost - in additional to some millions of jobs lost under Bush, but the Obama administration claims they "saved or created X millions of jobs since his second 6 month term started.
My question is (the program isn't over yet), why don't they tell us where these jobs were created? Who are they, where are they?
Transparency...my azz.
They are claiming at the roundtable that Obama will be making a big mistake if he continues passing bills, laws, etc., that are not even transparent to the public, and he is not considered a good president. Channel 5 - go watch the rest.
Mostly about a debate about R vs D in Nov. 48% now disapprove of Obama. |

| You can compare Presidential approval ratings at any point in time. Guess what? Obama is still polling higher than either Reagan or Clinton as of now. Explore Gallup data on presidential job approval ratings from Truman to Obama. |
